We begam pm 6th February with our Barossa Valley whites and finished with our Eden Valley Shirazes and Rieslings. It was an annual year, with a lot of stop/start, but the wines are now inside the winery and beginning their long and slow development. We look forward to the result.
The eve of the Trial Hill harvest
As in previous years, our pre-picking didgeridoo ceremony was performed by our neighbour Ron who in between managing the technical operations of AP John (the leading Barossa cooperage) is a professional musician talented in many fields including Aboriginal instruments and threir music. Trial Hill, to anyone who comes to visit, is clearly a very spiritual place. We believe it is only fitting that before receiving each year the vineyard's bounty we should pay tribute to the ancient guardians of this precious land, and ask their blessing.
Visit by 11 of our China friends
We were delighted to host the visit to the Barossa of some of our Maverick fans from China. After a vineyard visit, classic Barossa pub lunch and barrel tasting, we were able to relax over a real live Aussie BBQ at Trial Hill.

Bottling of the first release of the Maverick Single Vineyard Grenache series
In 2012, we decided we had the vineyards and the vintage to produce our Single Vineyard Grenache series - from 1971 Grenache grapes at Pewsey Vale, 1895 vines at Greenock and 1840's vines at Vine Vale. The wines are breath-taking and will be relased at year-end.
Maverick has its own stand at Prowein
This was the first time Maverick has participated in such as event. We met many old and new friends, including many of our existing and future distributors.
The Maverick winery becomes solar powered.
We finally saw the installation of 120 solar panels generating 120 kw of energy. This is totally in keeping with Maverick's position as a "green" biodynamic winery with all of our vineyards biodynamically farmed.
Misha joins the Maverick family
Our Rhodesian Ridgeback "puppy" was born on 12th November. 6 months later he is half grown at 32 kilos (though he still thinks he is a lap dog!) and larger than life - a genuine Tigger. He loves being involved in everything we do, from bounding around the vineyard to "helping" us in the winery, office and warehouse.
