2013 Maverick Twins Eden Valley Chardonnay (12 bottles minimum)

The 2013 Twins Chardonnay is a wonderful example of the variety from the cooler Eden Valley. The wine is bright with lively acidity and displays lovely primary and secondary varietal characters. Very fine and focused.

Tasting Notes

  • Colour: Straw
  • Bouquet: Elegant and fine perfumed nose with aromas of apricots citrus fruit and fresh ginger. Subtle oak adds layers of complex toasted coconut and spice.
  • Palate: The Palate is vibrant and fresh with luscious apricots, candied citrus peel and beautiful acidity. The wines fine structure, integrated with toasted coconut oak gives the wine layers of complexity and interest. Hints of citrus butter linger on the palate.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: This wine is grown on the Trial Hill vineyard, on three distinct aspects. The two best are on soil best described as ‘peak soil combination’ combining quartzites and tiny mica schists on an overlay of deep clay. One patch is steeply sloped to the southeast, the other gently sloping north. The third is on slightly heavier soil on the flats. This range of aspects gives us very good blending options when time comes to select the barrels for Twins Chardonnay. 2013 was another very good year for the Barossa. Concentration was good and ripeness across the parameters was even, giving fruit with balance and intense varietal expression.
