Tasting Notes

  • Colour: Deep impenetrable ruby with inky black depth.
  • Bouquet: A complex amalgam of mulberry and maraschino cherries, dark cocoa, spices, black pepper and savoury nuances. Twenty months maturation in new and conditioned French oak barriques provides a subtle infusion of smoke and spice notes to complement the dark fruits.
  • Palate: Powerful and muscular. Firm, fine velvety tannins characterize the palate resulting in great texture and structure. Dark berries, cocoa and spice combine with smoky vanillin oak to produce a wine of great balance and depth of flavour.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: Maverick‚Äôs 1.6 hectare Trial Hill Shiraz vineyard is situated on a North-facing slope high in the Eden Valley and is perfectly situated for the production of high quality cool climate Shiraz. Exceptional conditions throughout the 2005 vintage including mild ripening conditions in autumn ensured fruit with wonderful balance and great depth of flavour. Intense colour and mature tannin profiles are also characteristic of vintage 2005. Fruit was harvested in early-April and fermented in small, open top fermenters. After basket pressing, the wine was matured in new (44%) and conditioned (56%) French oak barriques for 20 months.
