Tasting Notes

  • Colour: Deep brick red with garnet hues.
  • Bouquet: Lifted with intense red currants, violet aromatics and ripe berries. Interwoven with the fruit, hints of tobacco, spice and dusty cedar oak provide contrast and balance.
  • Palate: Polished and focused with super-fine coating tannins. Lovely ripe berry fruits are interwoven with notes of tobacco, spice and classic Barossa dark chocolate. The finely textured palate is elegant, balanced and long.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: Maverick’s Barossa Ridge vineyard is situated at the foot of the ridgeline which runs North-South through the Barossa Valley. While the warm climate ensures optimal ripening and tannin maturity, cooling evening breezes provide for the development and retention of varietal characters. With growing season rainfall well below average and temperatures well above average, the vines were made to work hard producing healthy fruit of very good quality. Heat waves in December, January and February further reduced yields in most areas and advanced sugar ripeness. Overall conditions in the Barossa and Eden valleys were conducive to ripening with fruit showing good varietal characters, colour and excellent tannin maturity.
