2009 Maverick Twins Eden Valley Chardonnay

The 2009 Twins Chardonnay is a wonderful example of the variety from the cooler Eden Valley. The wine is bright with lively acidity and displays lovely primary and secondary varietal characters. Very fine and focused.

Tasting Notes

    James Halliday Rating
  • Colour: Bright pale yellow with green hues.
  • Bouquet: Aromas of stone fruits, with some citrus elements, all rounded up with complex yet subtle oak aromas.
  • Palate: Fine and linear, with flavors of peach, grape fruit, pear and some lemon citrus notes. Impressive length. A clean, prestine finish.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: Maverick’s three Chardonnay blocks at Trial Hill high in the Eden Valley produce limited quantities of fruit of exceptional elegance and balance. In spite of the hot and dry conditions experienced throughout the 2009 ripening season, the cooler Eden Valley with its cold night time temperatures ensured the development of wonderful concentrated flavours with good natural acidity. Fruit was harvested in early March under ideal conditions. Fermentation was carried out in new (20%) and seasoned (80%) French oak barriques followed by 13 months barrel maturation with weekly lees stirring.
