2006 The Maverick

With The Maverick, we wish to achieve the ultimate expression of Shiraz variety, the grapes come from our different top Shiraz terroirs, harmoniously brought together in outstanding vintages only. Our first such offering is the Maverick 2006. A great example of a full-bodied full bodied but complex and elegant Shiraz.

Tasting Notes

    James Halliday Rating
  • Colour: Deep garnet red with inky magenta hues.
  • Bouquet: Deeply ripe dark plum and blackcherry fruits, integrated oak with a savoury complexity and intensely concentrated richness.
  • Palate: Awash with dark berry fruit flavours, textural tannins and a finish that seems to last forever. The wine drinks handsomely now but will easily reward longer cellaring.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: Red wine in the Barossa Valley from the 2006 vintage is considered the very best of what Australian premium wines have had to offer in the last 5 vintages. Despite some rain during the early part of the harvest, the vintage was “classic” Barossa, with warm dry weather, ideal for ripening and for the production of intense fruit. This wine comes from the very best of Maverick’s Shiraz terroirs. Fruit was harvested in early April and was fermented in small open top fermenters. This tiny cuvee was matured for almost 24 months in Francois Freres barriques. A perfect example of Barossa’s finesse and elegance.
