2012 Maverick Trial Hill Riesling (12 bottles minimum)

A much more restrained version of our usual Trial Hill Riesling, reflecting the vintage. Nonetheless, the hallmark aromas and minerality are all clearly in evidence.

Tasting Notes

    James Halliday Rating
  • Colour: Pale straw with green hues.
  • Bouquet: Lime, and citrus, floral hints.
  • Palate: The wine is well balanced, but probably lacking some of the richness of the warmer years. Good minerality with a virtually bone dry finish.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: Maverick’s two hectare Riesling vineyard is situated on a naturally occurring North-East facing amphitheatre high in the Eden Valley and is perfectly situated for the production of high quality Riesling. The 2012 harvest will go down as one when it never seemed to stop raining, with as a result high incidence of disease in the vineyard which reduced yields and made for a generally “European” vintage.

Food Pairing

Tuna carpaccio, sushi, salmon steak
