Maverick Breeches

Maverick Breeches Blend White
Maverick Breeches Blend Red

Maverick’s “Barossa AOC” House Blend:
Maverick is proud to introduce the latest addition to the family! Maverick Breechens Blend is quite literally that – a red and a white house wine, very much in the Maverick style, made from grapes drawn from all of Maverick’s terroirs across the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. In contrast to the Maverick single vineyard series which best expresses specific terroirs, and the mid-priced Maverick Twins series which expresses varietal character, the Maverick Breechens Blend just quite simply tries to show the very best that Maverick and the Barossa have to offer, at very affordable prices.

The Breechens Name:
The label for both wines is an extract from the 5th November 1985 diary of Peter Wilson, the blacksmith and rouseabout of Pewsey Vale station, the original cool climate vineyard of Australia, planted in 1847. It refers to Mr. Wilson’s forgetting that day to set the “Breechens” braking mechanism on his wagon, with the result that the latter fell into the creek next to the Trial Hill Road. We believe that this incident happened very near to our iconic Trial Hill vineyard (which is planted on the Southernmost block of the original Pewsey Vale station), and reflecting as it does both the history and early tribulations confronting the first Barossa settlers we have selected both the Breechens name and blend as a tribute to the tenacity of these early pioneers. We hope that through drinking and enjoying this wine you will get a true sense of the history, culture and amazing diversity of the vineyards of the Barossa region.
