Description
The 2007 Trial Hill Chardonnay is a wonderful example of the variety from the cooler Eden Valley. The wine is bright, lively and complex showing lovely primary and secondary varietal characters.
Colour
Bright pale yellow with green hues.
Bouquet
A heady fusion of honeydew melon, citrus and hints of white peach intermingled with brioche, spice and cashew nuts. Subtle spicy vanillin oak provides additional lift and complexity.
Palate
Complex and savoury with fine acidity. Mineral notes combine with lemons, limes and grapefruit ensuring that the palate is lively and finishes clean. Elegant spicy oak and fine tannins further contribute to this well balanced wine which shows lovely length and creamy texture.
Vineyard and vintage comments:
Maverick’s two 0.9 hectare Trial Hill Chardonnay vineyards face
each other on opposing
hillsides high in the Eden Valley and produce limited quantities of fruit
of exceptional
elegance and balance. The early part of the 2007 ripening season was hot
and dry, allowing
for the development of wonderful concentrated flavours. Fruit was harvested
in late Feb
possessing great balance and elegance. Fermentation was carried out in
new (35%) and
used (65%) French oak barriques followed by 9 months barrel maturation
with weekly lees
stirring.
"Pale medium colour. Intense tropical fruit/ pear skin/ melon/ apricot aromas with some grilled nut complexity. Well concentrated wine with peachy/ herb garden flavours, savoury new oak and creamy mid-palate richness. Finishes tangy and oaky dry."
