Description
The 2007 Twins Chardonnay is a wonderful example of the variety from the cooler Eden Valley. The wine is bright with lively acidity and displays lovely primary and secondary varietal characters..
Colour
Bright pale yellow with green hues.
Bouquet
Melon, grapefruit and lemon with hints of nectarine are intermingled with exotic spice and nuts derived from maturation in French oak barriques. Mineral, flint and custard notes provide additional lift and complexity.
Palate
Poised and balanced. Mineral notes combine with grapefruit, lemons and nectarines ensuring that the palate is lively and finishes clean. Elegant spicy oak and fine tannins further contribute to this well balanced wine which shows lovely length and creamy texture.
Vineyard and vintage comments:
Maverick’s three Chardonnay blocks at Trial Hill high in the Eden Valley produce limited quantities of fruit of exceptional elegance and balance. In spite of the hot and dry conditions experienced in the early part of the 2007 ripening season, the cooler Eden Valley with its cold night time temperatures ensured the development of wonderful concentrated flavours with good natural acidity. Fruit was harvested in late February under ideal conditions. Fermentation was carried out in new (20%) and seasoned (80%) French oak barriques followed by 11 months barrel maturation with weekly lees stirring.
