Description
The 2006 Twins GSM is an amalgam of Grenache parcels from Maverick's Greenock Rise vineyard and the cooler climate Trial Hill vineyard. The result is a combination of vibrant, fleshy fruit and savoury textural elements.
Colour
Deep garnet/ruby red
Bouquet
Lifted with juicy raspberries and plums. Vanillin spice and dried herbs hum just under the fruit adding complexity.
Palate
Plush and focused. Fleshy raspberries and spicy plums sit above notes of dried herbs, spice and licorice. Excellent balance with great length. The textured palate finishes with savoury coating tannins.
Vineyard and vintage comments:
Maverick's Greenock Rise vineyard is situated on the gently undulating slopes of the Western Barossa while the Trial Hill vineyard is perched high in the cooler Eden Valley. Both vineyards produce Grenache of great character, albeit of very different nature - these "twins" are definitely not identical. Mild to warm conditions over spring and summer led to the rapid maturation of fruit and onset of vintage. In spite of a break in weather and fall in daytime temperatures late in March, conditions in the Barossa were favourable for very good colour and tannin development as well as good acid and pH levels.
"Medium deep colour. Intense herb garden/ musky / plum aromas with hints of dark chocolate and cedar. The palate is deeply set with musky/ plum/ raspberry flavours, cedar/ malt oak characters and firm chocolaty tannins. Finishes chalky dry but long and sweet."
